Grief or sorrow could be caused when someone dies. Intense sorrow could be caused when a person dies unexpectedly and a family member didn’t know until they are told that's when they are caused with great sorrow.

What is this grief? Grief is an emotion or a feeling which is deep sorrow, esp. thats caused by someone’s death. Grief has to do with anyone's death.

Here is an example of how grief made three family’s sad. In Afghanistan three soldiers were killed by an I.E.D (Improvised Explosion Device). Their parents didn’t know but they were soon told and they would've been filled with grief and deep sorrow. Their deaths were unexpected because they didn’t know that would happen.
